Retreat day 3 The Day Of The Panther

Retreat day 3 The Day Of The Panther

When I woke up in my Yert on day 3 for the morning Hatha Yoga session, I had no idea that the day would be one I’d never forget...........

Yoga with Jessie was peaceful and got the mind in tune with the body. I would have 2 very different but physical treatments that I was sure the awareness I was gaining through the different types of Yoga would allow me get the most from.

After a Vegan breakfast, I saw Ritchie for Reflexology, which I had very little knowledge of. I lay comfortably on a deckchair and he sat down by my feet. Similarly to Ged the day before, my feet were definitely aware that something was about to happen.

Ritchie explained to me that the feet were a physical representation of the whole body and therefore reflect emotional states. He dug into the arch of my foot, nearer to the heel than the toe. He explained that this is the small intestine spot, and is often tight in people who use their gut feelings to navigate life. Anyone who knows me knows there isn’t a lot of conscious thought before I make a decision so he was very accurate in his assessment. The Colon gets stressed and this stress expresses itself in tightness in that area of the foot. It was possibly the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced outside of rupturing my ACL. Not only did the pain ease after a time, but the emotional stress related with what he was saying melted away also. He also explained to me I needed to cut away from the emotional need to have my mum care for me. So we came up with some very practical steps to allow me and my mum to become more equal in our adult relationship and not keep resorting to mother and child (a state that keeps her nagging and me acting up). I left feeling incredible.

I then saw Jessie for Sound therapy. She placed me very specifically in the area of the Yert that she felt was best for the therapy to take place. She tapped a metal wand onto double ended metal forks. They were different sizes and rang sharply, all in different tones. She would then place the fork on a specific area of the body. It is designed to open up various chakras (emotional hotspots on the body traditionally used in many forms of eastern medicine) and also to positively affect the vibration of the water in your cells (anyone who is aware of the work of Masaru Emoto will possibly have an insight into what the therapy is trying to achieve). Going in I had pain in my right hip and the left side of my neck. After the hour, both injury sights were perhaps 90% better.

After both therapies I felt uplifted and the emotional toll of the day before had lifted. At this point we went for a walk in the woods. It was great to get out into nature and also to chat to some of the people who were also on the retreat. All of the people shared their stories and I shared mine, spookily, all of them had the same story as me, so I felt a total connection with all of them.

It was at the point of arriving back at the house that the day went weird! And not much of it hadn’t been weird up to that point to be fair.  I spoke with Paul, my business partner, and greatest advisor. We spoke with a freedom id not recently felt. Conversation turned to a buzzard we saw in the air. The conversation then turned to big cats, which we both enjoyed. He then informed me he’d met people recently who had seen a large black cat in the area. I was interested and thought back to my childhood where I’d make my grandmother take me out onto Dartmoor looking for the Beast. We then went for another amazing vegan dinner.

That evening I sat with a guy called Finn who slept in the bed next to me in the Yert. He had experienced many things I am thinking of doing. The Hoffman Process for one (Yes Karina, sometimes the answer just jumps out at you). He mentioned that he was aware that he had a spirit animal (a common thing amongst Native American traditions, not that Finn is an Native American). It was a huge lion. And he would call on his spirit at times of hardship. If this is in your mind or not, who cares, it’s a comforting thought.

A few minutes later we went to bed. At this point I noticed it was a full moon. If you’re thinking Werewolf, you’re not far off the bloody truth I tell you. As I settled down there was a large bang and I sprang up thinking someone was breaking in. I then realized there was something large on the yert. It walked to the tip of the tent, paused for a second, and then walked directly over me and jumped down behind. I could hear it inches from my head. It moved to my right and scraped the outside of the yert then jumped back onto the yert. At this point we dimmed the lights and could see the black outline through the translucent sections at the tip of the tent. I then lay down and waited. At a certain point I nodded off. Probably because of the intense feeling of peace I felt. Then it jumped off again. I ran up and looked out of the window. There a few feet away, and moving away from me was a large black cat. I presume a panther. It jumped down onto a path and disappeared under the other yert. I waited for 15 minutes to try and take a picture, but she didn’t return.

I would count this as the most awesome experience I’ve ever had outside of the birth of my son, of my entire life. I feel totally blessed to have been given such a rare and beautiful sight. More than that I believe she came to me to show me she is exactly for me, what Finn has with his Lion. The amount of energy this summons is awe inspiring, and whilst I may not hang onto that elation, it’s a reference point for what life can offer, and this world is absolutely amazing so make the best of it.

Sceptics amongst you I love you just the same! Peace!
